Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta

I want to see this in person! I have been in two hot air balloons, but going to this event looks amazing.

Turkey

Turkey became the 29th country I have visited when I recently went to Istanbul for a week. The events surrounding my opportunity to go on the trip are amazing, and I am continually amazed at how ridiculously blessed I am. I was able to spend the week with two great friends. We stayed in Istanbul the entire time. In many ways, the trip couldn’t have been more relaxing. It was great to have slow days of walking through the city the connects Europe to Asia. We were there during the Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha, so there were many people on holiday in the city from Saudi Arabia, the U.A.E., and all over the Middle East. It was definitely a unique time to be there and experience Istanbul. We took in some of the historical aspects of the city, like the Hagia Sophia below.

We also soaked in some of the beauty of the city as we ate lunch in a few parks, and took a ferry up the Bosphorus, the straight that divides the city and the continents, to the Black Sea.

Courage

There is only one explanation for picking up one’s cross and following Jesus, thereby losing their life in the process: God is worth more than life. If He is not worth more than my life, then I would be a fool to follow Him with it.

Courage is almost a contradiction in terms. It means a strong desire to live taking the form of a readiness to die…The paradox is the whole principle of courage; even of quite earthly or brutal courage. A man cut off by the sea may save his life if he will risk it on the precipice. He can only get away from death by continually stepping within an inch of it. A soldier surrounded by enemies, if he is to cut his way out, needs to combine a strong desire for living with a strange carelessness about dying. He must not merely cling to life, for then he will be a coward, and he will not escape. He must not merely wait for death, for then he will be a suicide, and will not escape. He must seek his life in a spirit of furious indifference to it; he must desire life like water and yet drink death like wine.

Hebrews 5-10

Last Sunday I preached on Hebrews 5-10 (sort of), while focusing in on the application in 10:19-25. I would love for you to listen, and to give any comments below. Mahalo!
